Top 4 anime not for kids!
When I was a little child I loved sitting in a huge armchair in the centre of the living room in the flat I used to live. The armchair was located in front of the TV. Every day at 5 p.m. I spend about an hour watching Dragon Ball. It was my first anime watched. Then I wasn't conscious that Dragon Ball is an anime - a Japanese animation. For me, it was just another cartoon but one of the best I've ever seen. I didn't really know why I like it so much. My mother was always telling me that it is too violent and I shouldn't watch it. I didn't listen. Now I grew up, I'm adult, but still I do watch anime. I know that people think that it's kind a weird thing, that anime is for children, that they are just cartoons, fairytales not for adults, but the truth is that there are a lot of kinds of anime. Some of them are pleasent content for the youngest but the other one are more complicated or even scarier. And so, we can find horrors like Shiki or Elfen Lied, thrillers, for example Monster or some psychological ones (Death Note). Those titles may schock, scandalize, frighten and disgust. They point out important questions, force to thinking and force to focus on the presented action. That's why, kids could have been a little bit confused, they wouldn't understand what'is going on, they could've been thrilled by those pictures.
Not every anime is directed to children and this posts presents four animes for the mature audience!
#4 Shingeki no Kyojin - Attack on Titan
Shingeki... is a quite fresh title. Realeased three years ago anime based on manga series made by Hajime Isayama recevied a worldwide succes. The story tells a history of Eren, his half-sister Mikasa and a friend Armin who live in the surrounded by the huge walls city. The walls protect the habitants from titans, giant monsters who attacked the humanity years ago. People live their normal and peaceful lives behind walls, noone exepect the danger until the attack repeats. Eren decides to protect his city by joining a special group called Trost District. As graduated cadet, he fights with titans using special machines which make him fly.
The history of three friends is fascinating and composed of many breathtaking plots. It shows us the power of friendship, it teaches us that we should never give up and also that nothing is as it seems. It points out the importance of the devotion to our family and to a country. Eren and his friends from Trost District fight for the better days, for the liberty and for the surviving. To mangify those topics, the author presents the story in a very brutal way. The scenes may disgust us even if it is just a cartoon but in my opinion this way gives a better effect. It shocks but also stay in mind forever.
Mikasa and Eren
#3 Desu Nōto - Death Note
Death Note is one of the most known anime and that is why a lot of people start their adventure with anime with this title. Death Note became famous because of it's great structure and schocking plots. The idea itslef is just amazing and it grew up in Tsugumi Ohba's mind in 2003 and was developing for the next three years.
The main character - a very intelligent student, Light Yagami finds a mistery notebook called Death Note. As soon as he touches the notebook, he becomes its owner and now, he is able to see Ryuk - Shinigami, the death god, the previous owner of Death Note and the admirer of terrestrial apples. Ryuk explains Light how to use Death Note - when he writes down a surname of a person, the person dies. But there are some conditions, for example, Light has to know what the person looks like not only what's their name. Young Yagami decides to use the notebook. He adopts a name Kira and stars killing crminalists and administer the law by himself. The society devides into two groups: the supporters who are greatful because of the fresh peace and safety they can finally experience and the opponents who think that the end doesn't justify the means. Helpless police cannot find the unknown killer and they turn to L - a very unusual detective.
I was very impressed with Ohba's concept. Every episode gave me the amazing impressions. I was stunned with all those unexpected twist plots and the new ideas of the character's future. It thrilled me, it made me pay attention for it. I started to thinking about this, how it would look like in the real life? Which side would I choose? I think that this choice can say lot of about the one's nature.
Tough problems presented in the animation. Do you still think that anime is for kids?
Ryuk loves apples.
Hellsing is a classic horror anime based on the manga created by Kouta Hirano. We can notice a connection to Bram Stoker's novel Dracula with a naked eye. The animated version differs a little bit to an original version of manga; it leads a quite new story which tells about Hellsing Organization managing by Integra Hellsing. Her protector called Alucard (Dracula backwards) is a defeated by Van Hellsing hundred years ago vampire, now loyal and devoted to Hellsing family. With his new co-worker Seras Victoria, ex-policewoman turned into a vampire by Alucard itself after the ghouls attack when she got fatally wounded, he has to struggle with horde of the vampires trying to keep their existance in secret.
It is a short outline of the plot, unfortunately, it is difficult to summarize this anime without spoilers, because the most intresting part takes place a little bit later. But, this what is confusing, is the fact, that Alucard, dangerous vampire is under control of the human. He helps them, what is more, he protects them and obeys the orders. However, he might be consider as a traitor of the vampire nation. Despite of his double nature, he's an interesting, inteligent and loyal character and everybody likes him. I love his manners and his self-confidence. Sadly, it's just an anime character, but in my opinion Alucard is one of the best vampire personality in pop culture. All Edward Cullens or Damon Salvatores are just funny puppets in comparison to Alucard.
Hellsing Ultimate is a great treat to every horror fan. It's scary, it's engrossing, it's surprising!
Interesting fact: The ending music for the first five episodes was executed by Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.
#1 Kuro no keiyakusha - Darker than Black
Darker than Black is definitively one of my favourite anime ever; created by Tensai Okamura and released in the 2007.
Imagine a world seperated by a huge wall, made for protecting people from Heaven's Gate and Hel'ls Gate. There is no real stars anymore, you see just an ilussion. Instead of the stars, there are people with superpowers called Contractors used as killers and criminals and also Dolls - deprived of free will medium. Darker than Black tells the story of Hei - one of the most effective contractor, Yin - blind medium who is able to cantact and find every random person thanks to connection with water, Huang - an emissary between Hei and Syndicate and Mao - he used to be a man, but now he is a contractor able to become an animal, for most of the time he lives as a cat.
Darker than Black is a complexed story, it demands our attention and concentration. We can't switch off for a moment, unless we want understand what's going on. At the beginning it's thrilling and confusing; we don't understand everything, lots of information are provided very fast but when we get accustomed, the story moves us. My eyes were often wet during watching this series. I was going through all the adventures with the main charecters. It is worth to watch this anime, to think about the exploitation of the weaker ones, of those without rights. It's entertaining content but also an opportunity to rethink all these what we know.
Me, everyday
I wanted to see 'Darker than black' for a loooooooooooong long time and I miss 'Shingeki no Kyojin' so much....
