Top 4 books that changed my point of view!
The theme of today's post speaks for itself. I don't have to add anything.
Not everbyody likes reading but everybody has those several important titles
that have occured in the right time of their lives. My list may differ from
another lists like that. Probably, not everyone would be intrested in it but in
my opinion, all those four books are worth reading. They bring up difficult
problems and open our minds. At least, they did it to me. That is why I'd like
to share with them. The introduction was very short because I think that more
imporant is to get to the point and tell more about the main theme of this
post. Here comes the list of 4 books that changed my way of perception.
#4 Christiane F. by Christiane Vera Felsherinow
I get older but all of those things that happened to Christiane are still
shocking, painful and regretful as they were couple years ago when I first read
the novel. Christiane was only 14 when she started doing drugs. She was
trying harder and harder drugs. Nobody saw what is happening, nobody really
cared. In 1970s the drug problem was common but people seemed not to notice the
truth. The environment of addicted teens started to grow and the adults didn’t
do anything with that. Even when their kids disappeard for a couple of days to earn
money for more narcotics. Of course, in illegal way.
Even if we know Christiane did it herself, no one forced her to taking drugs
we symphathise her. We feel sorry for her when she loses her friends, when life
is getting more diffucult, when her mother doesn’t understand her. I think that
is worth to devote a moment for this novel to realise how kids are dangered by
drugs, how drugs can ruin somebody’s life and that narcotics make life more
complicated; it doesn’t solve anything. Some people would say that life is to
beautiful and too short for doing drugs but i would say that life is too hard
to make it even harder. We should keep our eyes open, we never know what can
happen to people around us. Acces to narcotics is much more easier than we
think and it can touch everyone.
#3 When Giants Walked the Earth: A Biography of Led Zeppelin by Mick
Wall
When you are a big fan of any band or musician, reading about your
faveourite one is a great pleasure. You are able to get to know a lot of
secrets, rare informations and about beginnings. This biography was located on
this list because of the beginngins indeed. I never was really into how the one
of the most important icons of music start creating their music. I was
impressed by it and that was fine. Of course, I knew some basic infos but how Robert Plant got into the group, who was Peter Grant and why he was so
important to the Zeppelin’s career, what John Paul Jones was doing before
Zeppelin? They had normal boring lives, everyone except Page had family and sort
of jobs. They had never expected to become legend. For example, Robert Plant
was dreaming about great vocal career but his parents demanded from him to
start a decent work as an accountant. He was confirmed that his destination is
to be a singer, so he never gave up and now he is an idol for every hard rock
fan. For me, it is so weird that the legend like Plant or Bonham could never
become famous if they weren’t enough stubborn. It’s the best example for people
who have big aims in their life to never give up and don’t stop trying even if
the whole world is agiainst you. So you can be a witness of creation of the
band that is considered as a divine, you are able to participate in action that
had place forty years ago. You see how the Giants
had been created and how they destroyed themselves. You feel joy when concerts
are sold out, you get angry when critics criticise the last album, you feel
sorry for Plant when his son dies. This book shows real emotions but also gives
you a hope that every dream can come true.
#2 Narcopolis by Jeet Thayil
I have read Narcopolis not
very long ago but I have to admit that I got into the swing of it. Narcopolis
is a magical book that is filled up with useful and wise thoughts. The narrator
draws us a lifestyles of his friends from Bombay in 1970s: Dimple, Rumi, Mr Lee that are surrounded by addiciotion, prostitution and drug trafficking. Just
like the title say the main plot is about drugs but actually, for me, the most
important things happened behind them Even if the drugs are everywhere,
everybody is adicted by opium or deals it, the stories of characters opens our
my minds on various questions. The time and place was much different than our
peaceful life in Poland. We don't meet eunuchs on the streets, we don't have to
beg for money, we don't do drugs instead of having a meal but we care about
people we love, we go through loss of our skins and family. No matter where or
when do we live, we experience the same feelings. Regardless of culture or
religion, we are similiar even if we differ at so much points.
#1 Fight Club by Chuck Palachniuk
This book is well known because of a famous movie directed by David Fincher
starring Helena Bonham-Carter, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. I was trying to
avoid watching this movie as long as I could. I was sured that it’s talking
about fighting, agression, illegal stuff. Finally, I forced myself. And guess
what? I felt in love with it! I was so impressed by its climite, interesting
plots and thoughts that make you thinking about things you probably never would
think. That is why I decided I have to read the original book. I have to admit
that the novel was reproduced very proper but in my opinion it doesn’t devote
enough attention for more imporant questions. And we can find a lot of them in
the Fight Club.
It’s not easy to talk about Fight Club
and don’t tell the spoilers so I can only say that the main character
called the Narrator provides a
normal, decent life. He’s got a decent job, a decent flat and a decent Ikea
furniture. Unfortunately, he suffers from an insomnia. Until, he meets Tyler
Durden who helps the Narrator with managing after a fire at his decent place.
Tyler is an unusual and very eccentric person; he lives in deserted house by
Paper Street, he steals cars and do not care about his jobs. He changes the
Narrator’s life completly by a hit. Hit that started Fight Club. Unfortunately, I can’t anything else because The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not
talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is you DO NOT talk about
Fight Club. Another dose of problems gives him Marla – a girl met at the
support group.
The Fight Club is not only a novel
telling about beating another people, it doesn’t encourage anyone to harm
strangers, it brings up topics of materialism in these days, it laughs at excessive
faith in power of money and expensive stuff. It forces you to think: do I
really need all those things? Do I really have to be a copy of celebrities, do
I have to listen what they say? We think we are free because we can choose job
we want to work, we can choose what we want to study, we have such a lot of
opportunities, but are we really free? Do we really do things we feel like
doing? So many things limit us that we even can’t notice them. We are grateful
because we live in the free country but we have to follow all the directions,
we study, we go to work, we get merried, we have children. Brave one who gets
out of the line. But maybe it is a good life? Maybe without all those rules there wouldn’t
be a peace but an anarchy? We don’t know but we can reflect on this.
