The best 4 Leonardo DiCaprio's roles!
It was so difficult to choose only four movies appearing this famous and brilliant actor. I was even thinking of enlarging today's post to at least five roles, but with difficulties I managed to pick those four lucky movies where Leo climbed to the top of acting.
He started his aciting career very soon because he was only 5 years old when he first apeared in the TV series called Romper Room. Now he is consider as one of the best actors ever. His position in the life of the cinema was confirmed by recieving an Oscar Award this year for a brillian role in The Revenant. But actually, this movie is not on my list. However, the conditions during the shooting was hard and Leonardo has played very well; he again proved his greatness, in my opinion there are some other more interesting roles. And here they come: the best 4 Leo's parts!
#4 The Basketball Diaries by Scott Kalvert (1995)
Jim Carrol played by Leonardo is a rising star of the the school basketball team. He is not a good student; he sleeps during the lessons, he doesn't listen to the teachers but he's a great player. He's got a bright future, unfortunatelly, he starts interesting in drugs. Firstly, it's just a great fun for the saturday's evening but soon, young Jim becomes an addict. Moreover, his friend suffers from leukemia and he cannot enjoy the normal life anymore. The movie is based on the truth story and Jim Carrol's life.
I was very impressed of this how young Leo is able to show all the feelings, how he is able to play high on drugs young teen with lots of problems. He was only 20 when he had to become Jim Carrol, the real, living person who is going to watch the movie in the cinema. The pression must have been very huge, but the great Leo managed it. His character made me symphatise him. I could understand his problems, I felt really sorry for him. All because of the amaizing Leo's play.
#3 Total Eclipse by Agnieszka Holland (1995)
Again, Leo was just 19 years old when he had to play another big role, a very imporant personality: Arthur Rimbaud. Arthur Rimbaud was obviously a very famous French poet living in the 19th century. Now, he is glorified but during his lifetime, people despised him because of his terrible manners and innovative style of writing. Moreover, he was involved in the affair with a married, a very popular and respected poet Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis). They ran away together and enjoyed the life until, the problems begun...
I was so stunned by Leonardo's skills. He was so young but he wasn't scared of playing such a controversial role. Moreover, he did it great. I could have never imagined Rimbaud better. He even resembles him! This role confirms that Leo is able to play literally every role. He doesn't only play, he is the the role!

#2 What's eating Gilbert Grape by Lasse Hallström (1993)
Two great actors in one movie? Yes, please! I love Johnny Depp as an actor, especially in his first movies. Johnny plays Gilbert Grape - a main and a title character and his brother Arnie played by Leo himslef is mental ill. The movie tells a story of the oldest brother, who leads a normal life, taking care of his sisters, brother and mother when he met Becky who provides some new adventures into Grapes' lives.
Leo's acting was so conviencing that at the premiere of this movie, the audience in the cinema was sure that Arnie had been played by a true mental disabled person. He was nominated to an Oscars for the best supporting actor in the 1994.
#1 The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese (2013)
A loud, scandalising, controversial movie, that devided Scorsese's fans telling a story about Jordan Beflort - a very talented stockbroker who recevied a succes in a very fast way, but not necessarily legal. Belfort becomes richer and richer but with a great money there is a great responsibility which he doesn't have. He's wasting a great amount of money for parties, fast cars, new houses but also drugs. Big salaries attracts people and they don't think about the consequences of the illegal acts. Jordan prefers to party, lie, trick and betray rather than live as a fair citizen and finally, he pays his price.
Another big and brave role of this actor. There are a lot of moments I really appreciated but I don't want to spoil a thing, so I just admit that this kind of content is not proper for everyone. Not everybody will like this movie because of its vulgar form but when we take it with a pinch of salt, it ocurres that this movie touches questions of manipulating, fraud and value of the money. What is more imporant: dignity or weatlh? Leo brilliantly plays spoilt by money Jordan. He is just great and you can notice it with a naked eye due to this movie. I was very upset when he didn't get an Oscar because of this role two years ago.
